Replacing Amp Caps - High-End Audio Discussion Forum

The amp recently stopped outputting a signal and after all the usual internal checks, with an amp as old as this, cap replacement should be on the list of things to do. The values and associated numbers on the OEM caps are as follows:

Car Audio & Stereo Capacitors | Hybrid & Digital Caps to ...

Audio capacitors charge and discharge very fast, stabilizing the voltage to the amplifier. Stabilizing the voltage helps the amplifier stay cooler and run more efficiently because the amplifier is not straining to get the power it needs. Stabilizing the voltage helps an amplifier reduce distortion and produce more power consistently.

Capacitors, especially filtering caps (or condensor caps depending on where you are from), will typically have an actual capacity that is -/+ 20% off the indicated value. Voltage ratings, on the other hand, indicate tolerance. Using a higher voltage cap will only mean that the cap will withstand greater voltages than the

How to Pick Audio Capacitors – Charrette & Beget

Excellent advice here but I wonder if I could ask a question. I’ve been recapping my JVC AX-Z911. Despite being a complex amplifier, most of it has been straight forward. However, the main power supply caps are rated at 18000uf at 63v. I can’t find good audio grade capacitors with 18000uf so I need to decide whether to go 15000uf or 22000uf.

Power Supply Caps - Standard vs Audio | diyAudio

The amp plays well but all 4 power supply caps are bulged. They are presently Elna for Audio 10,000uF 63V and measure 35mm x ~50mm. There is no room to increase diameter but it looks like I could go to about 75mm high. I am considering upgrading the caps in terms of capacitance (12,000uF or 15,000uF) or voltage rating.
