It depends on the distortion or inadequate 192kHz handling. Recently, we prefer to record and mix in 96kHz. We are confident in the audio quality. We also believe that higher-resolution files are better for archiving purposes. 96kHz or even archive mastering at 192kHz is typically an excellent option for mastering.

Will I notice a difference between 96kHz and 192kHz ...

Unlikely, and in any case 192kHz is 'higher number = better' marketing bs for playback. If you do notice a difference it won't be because it's any more accurate in the audio frequencies but because of distortions or poor processing of 192kHz.

The highest quality MP3 has a bitrate of 320kbps, whereas a 24-bit/192kHz file has a data rate of 9216kbps. Music CDs are 1411kbps. The hi-res 24-bit/96kHz or 24-bit/192kHz files should, therefore, more closely replicate the sound quality the musicians and engineers were working with in the studio.

I'd be willing to bet that the majority of the difference that you heard was because the 192k stuff was being played off of a HD, and the 96K stuff was being played from your transport. To do a fair comparison, both need to be played from the same source.

I can hear the difference between 44.1KHz and 48KHz in a good hifi system (more brilliance and defined sound). 96KHz and 192KHz are more academical stuff. I mean that it’s difficult to hear the difference with common music. BUT if you use specific synthesizers, as example, the difference is HUGE! more harmonics, more high frequencies.

24 bit 48khz or 96khz? What's better? - Audio - Linus Tech ...

So yeah, you could have 96 KHz or even 192 KHz or even a million KHz, but that doesn't mean any additional utility because it's outside of the range of our hearing. High sample rates are specs that manufacturers of audio products like to put on the box because consumers aren't very educated and they think higher numbers means more power.
