What I'm seeing when I play back the resulting ASF file is that all video frames look fine, but there's no audio in there. Well, that's not 100% true, there is actually audio in there but only for the first half a second or so. All of my samples are time stamped and the thing works perfectly when attached to renders rather than the file writer.
