I have tried Telefunken ECC83, but better and much cheaper are Amperex 7025 (equivalent!) 4. Change the two volume pots! I have built in stepped attenuators with 24 steps! Take the 50kOhm one!

The Aronov LS 960I replaced (and bettered) my Audio Research separates and has been a mainstay of my system for years. It will accept 6550s, KT88s and KT90's. Great bass, tuneful midrange and detailed but never harsh highs. These don't come up for sale very often and for good reason: those that have them want to keep them.
