    If there isn't and effect in the track bin, then the option is grayed out. If you insert effects in the individual clips, then you would need to bounce that *clip* down to apply the effect -- but that would not require using the Process-Apply Audio Effects option. You would just do that as a regular bounce to clip.

    My practice has always been to apply Melodyne (5) to a clip, then when done hit Ctrl-Shift-A to Apply Audio Effect, so that I don't end up with a whole bunch of Melodyne effects all over the place. (Once the pitch correction is done, I don't need/want the Melodyne effect sitting in there taking up CPU.)
