If current_player is None and is_idle is True, but there’s no sound if you click the audio play button, I’d check the log file just to make sure that it’s being played by mpv. If you know the audio filename in the collection.media folder, you could try to play it directly with mpv using the Debug Console in Anki.

tl;dr audio was working fine for several decks on AnkiDroid, but after the first sync with AnkiWeb audio is broken on AnkiDroid and on desktop Anki, but works in AnkiWeb. I am having trouble with audio files associated with a couple of shared decks I recently downloaded (Korean Vocabulary by Evita, Korean Grammar Sentences by Evita).

Go onto ankiweb's web app (www.ankiweb.net) and see if you see the audio files THERE. If not, then they're not getting uploaded from your computer, so you need to force a full sync from your computer up to ankiweb (Anki -> Preferences -> Network -> On Next Sync, Force changes in one direction)

Anki 2.1.20+ seems to be suffering from some general issues with audio playback, so it would be important to isolate whether this is an add-on specific issue or not. Anki iOS does not play audio automatically. I've tried toggling "automatically play audio" under Study Settings on and off but to no avail. I am using community-shared decks which work just fine on PC and Android. However, for iOS I have to take the extra step of pressing the play button to hear the audio, which is annoying (see pic below).
