I think the VMS2's hardware labeled one output as "booth" which is what I thought the "side" output was. In Audio setup choose the VMS2 as your Audio Device. Under Output routing pick "external" as your mixing mode. Then you can assign decks to "front" and "side" channels, more appropriately they should be called "channel 1" and "channel 2."

In order to fix it, I need to reboot the computer (which results in a BSOD), then connect the VMS2 back in and uninstall the drivers, turn off and turn back on the unit to re-install the drivers. I have found that if I remove the USB cable rather than powering off the unit, this unloads (so far) as it is suppose to and no issues.
