As allays pulseaudio isn't working but in 12.1 its disabling doesn't help. The issue is: my 5.1 system sounds crappy (and subwoofer doesn't work) when I use amarok and pulseaudio is enabled, but VLC and other videoplayers are able to play 5.1 sound. If I disable pulseaudio amarok sounds great (and subwoofer works), but videoplayers are unable to play …

[solved] No Sound in Amarok! • KDE Community Forums

    https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?t=78346
This is due to the fact that you are using pulseaudio. It doesn't work well with Phonon and the Xine backend, and there is no reason to use Pulseaudio in KDE in the first place, As KDE doesn't need it, the best would be to remove that and rely on Alsa and Phonon to handle sound, that's how it is intended in KDE anyway, and it works perfectly well.

The first problem (Amarok volume jumping to 100% after using another program) seems to be solved, but since it's random, I have to test it for a few days more to be sure. I haven't managed to solve the second problem (Amarok volume control not working).

Hi, unfortunately, Amarok is not a music editing software nor audio effects post-processor, adding direct support for LADSPA plug-ins is beyond our scope. On the other hand, Amarok just uses Phonon to play sounds, phonon then uses let's say gstreamer, which most commonly uses PulseAudio, which commonly uses ALSA to do the playback.
