    From my general reading of the sound problems on the Gentoo forums, it seems one can have trouble when compiling in different sound approaches from the USE flags. So in your case make sure you do not have arts or pulseaudio use flags compiled into kmix or jack compiled into mythtv (unless you really need them) /dev/snd/pcmC0D0p is the default ...
