About lossless audio in Apple Music - Apple Support

    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT212183
In addition to AAC, the entire Apple Music catalog is now also encoded using ALAC in resolutions ranging from 16-bit/44.1 kHz (CD Quality) up to 24-bit/192 kHz. While the difference between AAC and lossless audio is virtually indistinguishable, we’re offering Apple Music subscribers the option to access music in lossless audio compression.

Understanding audio bitrate and audio quality | Adobe

    https://www.adobe.com/creativecloud/video/discover/audio-bitrate.html
Audio CD bitrate is always 1,411 kilobits per second (Kbps). The MP3 format can range from around 96 to 320Kbps, and streaming services like Spotify range from around 96 to 160Kbps. High bitrates appeal to audiophiles, but they are not always better. Keep in mind how your digital audio is going to have to contend with bottlenecks.

ALAC bit rate - HydrogenAud

The options are set to keep the same bit rate and depth as in original files. When I check the bit rate for resulting ALAC files in iTunes, most of them are in 500-800 kbps range, but for some of them it showed bit rates under 300kbps, which seems very low for a lossless file.

The difference between FLAC vs. ALAC explained

    https://vox.rocks/resources/flac-vs-alac
When the record comes out, it's usually 100-200 MB, which is, by all means, impossible to store on a portable device. That's why compression reduced those original files to make them smaller for more convenient storage and transmission. The good thing about lossless compression is that the size is reduced but not at the cost of the quality.

ALAC -> CarPlay - still lossless, HD? - Apple Community

In answer to your question though, an app I use is VOX, specifically designed for lossless/HD audio on iOS. It prefers FLAC (and the same original question goes for that), but does do Apple Lossless and does support CarPlay. Also, the iCloud Drive app (standard Apple app) plays Apple Lossless too, although that doesn't do CarPlay of course.
