The Adcom Gfa-555 happens to be one of the smoothest and most detailed amps I've heard and that I own 2. They compliment but, yet sound identical to my 2 Denon POA-2400A's. The GFA-555 has a little difference in sound than the newer Adcom amps like the updated model the GFA-5500.

When I bought the 555, it was rated one of the best sounding 2 or 3 amps under $5K by Audiophile, Stereophile, etc. (at the time, it was right around $1000). I would be hard-pressed in a blinded comparison to discern consistent differences across a variety of source material. A definite advantage of the Adcom is the dual stereo outputs.
