I also have Adam A7Xs and also the larger A77X's. My advice and Adam Audio's advice is going to be the same, and that is to take them off your desk and put them on adjustable stands. The Adams need some space between you and them. Even on a deep desk the A7X's would still be too close.

Did some research and went for a pair of Adam A7X's. Before I made the switch, I used the Axe-III Synth block to run pink noise through my current setup and monitored via a RTA mic and the Axe-III RTA block. The results showed a sizable bump in the low end and a descending slope through 6K or so, and then a more steep cutoff in the highs.

The A7X reminds me of a very well set up and balanced, high quality P.A. (like a 'Funktion One') at an outdoor event. Since I do a lot of live music, this appealed to me. The old A7 is a great tool and if I could afford it, I would keep them as a second reference and for low volume/late night mixing.
