For video, my 8300HD is connected directly to my TV (Sony KDL-52w4100) via HDMI, and "Audio output" setting on the 8300HD is set to either "HDMI" or "Dolby Digital" - with same problem on either setting. Yes, changing the audio output to "Other" on the 8300HD removes the dropouts, but also gets rid of DD5.1. Not acceptabe to lose the digital audio.

I connected a brand new Insignia NS-37L550A11 HDTV to a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300HDC Digital Video Recorder with an HDMI cable. The audio is not getting to the TV. I have checked all four HDMI connections on the TV, and replaced the HDMI cable. The TV speakers play sound from other devices, so the problem is not the speakers.
