For video, my 8300HD is connected directly to my TV (Sony KDL-52w4100) via HDMI, and "Audio output" setting on the 8300HD is set to either "HDMI" or "Dolby Digital" - with same problem on either setting. Yes, changing the audio output to "Other" on the 8300HD removes the dropouts, but also gets rid of DD5.1. Not acceptabe to lose the digital audio.

The 8300HD settings only allow you to send the digital audio to either the HDMI or the digital optical out (not both). I was able to use the 880 to make this change for me, but I think it is somewhat lame that the 8300HD cannot send digital to both outputs.
