Well,t he Firepod has 8 preamps, the Audiofire only 2. So if you need more than 2 preamps and don't have any outboard ones right now, the Firepod is pretty much the only option. However, the specs on the Audiofire are quite amazing (113db dynamic range?) but I don't rely on specs much, they don't tell the whole story.

sorry if this is hijacking the thread but I'm considering selling my fireface for a firestudio. I just don't need the swiss army connections. So my question is are the preamplifiers on the PreSonus worth so called downgrading for. The RME pres are strating to bug me a bit. I would go Echo audiofire but i need the pres for now.

Higher voltage power rails deliver more headroom, deeper lows, smoother highs and an overall fuller sound. Discrete - No op amps. Only transistors, resistors and capacitors.

The firepod has a bunch of mic pres that I wouldnt use, and still only has 2 TRS ins. Both are in my price range, but i'm concerned about drivers mostly i suppose. The echo unit is tempting but I'm not sure how good their drivers are. I can't find any reviews on the unit!

aaronburr wrote:think the a/d converters in the audiofire are better than the firepod's, though? I've used both and have liked them both. I personally like the Audiofire better (I use all external preamps), but unless you're willing to drop quite a bit more then $300 on preamps, I think you are better off sticking with the firepod.
