64 bit Audio Engine? I am curious if anyone has read/heard if not only that the application runs in 64 bit but also if it processes audio in 64 bits? I am also curious if it will support 64 bit audio files now? Some applications like Reaper have had end to end 64 bit audio processing since its incarnation...

Many of the latest DAWs have 64-bit float mixing engines, but the advantages of that format can only be fully realized through 32-bit integer recording and playback. At the current time, the only programs that offer a 64-bit float mixing engine plus 32-bit integer recording and playback are Cubase, Nuendo, and WaveLab.

Regarding the new 64-bit double precision audio processing engine that can be optionally enabled; I read here that it only works with VST3 plugins. Is that a limit of VST2 or is it like how Steinberg chose to cripple VST2 in Cubase compared to other DAWs, like they did with regards to external sidechain functionality for example? (i.e. SC input in all DAWs other than …

So just use 64-bit engine mode, whenever you want (best, by activating it via Edit > Settings > Audio > Driver settings, I'm on the German version, so the path might be named a bit differently in English), the downside is neglectable and the higher precision will yield more accurate results (even if often we won't notice them).

True 64 Bit Double Precision engine in next update of Live ...

As per Ableton manual, Live still uses 32 Bit audio engine in combination with 64 bit engine, which slightly degrades audio quality. Cubase/Nuendo utilise proper full 64 Bit Double Precision Audio Engine to maintain the best possible quality. Since with Logic Pro x 10.5/Studio One 5 etc more and more DAWs are using Live's session view concept.

Now to the 64 bit stuff,in case anybody is interested. I engaged the 64 bit sound engine and I opened up a project that is my current C9 project which is running in 32 audio. At first it actually sounded thinner to me,so I rendered a version and then loaded both versions in to Vegas Pro. I was correct, the 64 bit sounded the slightest thinner.
