If I disable HDMI display in ATI's drivers I also loose the audio outputs too. Also, I have a headset (microphone and speakers), they use 3.5mm jacks (pink + green) how do I go about connecting them up using the 4850. When I check the playback devices, AMD HDMI out is not an option. I double checked the Catalyst Control Suite and I did not see an install option for AMD HDMI audio. So, am I mistaken in thinking that the 4850 supports DVI-HDMI audio? Or is there some kind of hardware error/incompatibility that I am not aware of?

Sapphire 4850. I have 1 HDMI cable goin from my 4850 to HDMI in on my amp. I am supposed to be able to carry 1080p AND 7.1 audio over this 1 cabble but when in control panel and i select the HDMI audio out i get no sound. But i get sound through the sp/dif on my m/board. My DVD player is my HTPC because i have a blu-ray drive in it.

Get the grey ATI branded DVI to HDMI adaptor and it works. you cant use other adaptors, or DVI to HDMI cables. Shouldn't the HD 4850 be able to do 1080p AND 7.1 surround sound over HDMI? My speakers are 5.1, and the HDMI goes from the PC to the TV. Hello Nuthed5 You could go about this a different way. I have a 4850 and a sony bravia and an older sony amp. I run the HDMI to the bravia then optical from the tv to the amp. So if just watching TV I use the TV speakers. During HDTV I turn on the amp and turn down the speakers on the TV and have full 5.1 surround.
