    As this thread was started 10 years ago, here are some observations I made a few minutes ago on Win10 Pro with Media Player ver 12.0.14393.206. In late 2016, Media Player flawlessly opens and plays 24bit, 32bit, 32bit float wav, and 24bit FLAC. I did a fast test with 64bit files and couldn't open those, but the others are fine.

    I do a bit of recording and usually bounce my tracks to 16bit WAVs because Windows Media Player doesn’t support 24bit WAV out of the box and I couldn’t find the right codecs.     All I do is bitstream the audio out of the HDMI 2.0 jack to the AVR. This arrangement works fine on Windows 7 - I get all the typical HD Audio options. But with Windows 10, I still get all the HD options except for the 24 bit, 192000 option. The only option I have now for audio devices is the HDMI output to my AVR. I have removed all the rest.
