    I can somtimes stand to listen to 88.2 and 176.4kHz pretty well, and on certain recordings I prefer 176.4 over even 44.1 b/c 88.2/176.4 has less of this softening effect than 96/192. IME, higher sampling tends to lean out the tonality while becoming subjectively more "airy" and extended, so 176.4 is my choice if I resample at all.
